During a family vacation to Maui where several members of our family flew from around the world to attend, the girls decided to have a spa day while the boys played golf.
This was the fourth time to Maui for some of our family members and they were already familiar with preferred areas to spa and dine, so wanted to try a highly ranked spa in Wailea that they hadn’t been to before which featured locally sourced products and services.
The Awili Spa and Salon came highly recommended for custom services using locally sourced products and technique, and upon researching further, found that they also recently ranked the #1 Spa in the United States in 2018. The decision was made, and off we went to visit Andaz Maui Awili Spa and Salon.
The Experience
When I travel the world, I want to get into the culture of the place I’m visiting and experience the local surroundings and gifts that come from the earth within my treatments. The Awili Spa could support that, and I was thrilled to experience, for the first time, my very own Apothecary Blending Experience.
The Apothecary Blending Experience is like none other I’ve ever come across before within a spa resort. If you are to picture a night playing with essential oils, blending your own wellness concoction and being guided by a certified aromatherapy aesthetician who’s also your certified massage therapist looking out for your best interest while you blend your very own massage oil together, this is what you get in the Apothecary Blending Experience.
It was fun, engaging, rewarding, and frankly my favorite part of the day because I got to get to know my certified technician personally while also seeing (and selected) what gets put into the products put on my body during treatment.
The blend we created together had never been combined before the way we did it, and I absolutely loved the result. It was a combination of Bonsai, Yuzu, Pikake and Kumquat. A beautifully grounding yet uplifting blend.
After completing the Apothecary Blending Experience we went straight into the massage treatment, which was a 60-minute essential massage. I wanted to get deep into my muscles to unlock some muscle strain, while also incorporating the Hawaiian “Lomi Lomi” style of massage to rebalance my “inner power”. My certified massage therapist created something unique and magical that addressed both my muscle needs as well as my desire to experience Hawaiian style massage. It accomplished exactly what I was looking for, and I walked away feeling physically exceptional, emotionally at piece and smelling of the fabulous blend we had created together.
The Amenities
During our visit, we were impressed with the array of inclusions the Andaz Maui had to offer each guest, from access to the hotel’s infinity pools and deck hands for the day, to access to the beach, beautiful views and more.
The materials surrounding each step around the hotel and spa were thoughtfully hand selected to maximize sustainability and organic, local materials. Elements of nature surround you in this fabulous spa, from wood recycled and refurbished into stunning tables and art pieces, to coral shaped lighting that gave an impression of the Hawaiian tropical ocean all around you.
The men’s and women’s locker rooms came fully stocked with everything you’d possibly need for a day of self-care and comfort while visiting the spa. This included the usual shavers and shaving cream, lotions and shampoos but also organic 50 SPF sun screen for before and after your visit to the outdoor section to relax amongst other well throughout details. If you forget a pair of underwear, no problem, the locker rooms also come equipped with complimentary disposables for your convenience as well.
The Service
For me, the greatest part about the Andaz Maui Awili Spa and Salon was the service and exceptional attention to you, and your care. There is something magical about the people there. An unspoken warmth and genuine kindness exudes from all technicians, front desk staff and workers. You get the impression they are there only for you, and that you are the only person in the building. They have designed their treatments to ensure you have the same professionally certified aesthetician, massage therapist and Apothecary consultant throughout your entire stay, so that you are not disrupted with a changing of hands, small talk through sessions, or starting again from scratch while enjoying multiple treatments. This feature alone made our visit to the Andaz Maui unique, refreshing, rejuvenating and rewarding.
In Conclusion
Our experience at the Andaz Maui Awili Spa and Salon was like none other, and a memorable one for each person in our family who attended. Each person received different treatments or combinations of, and all came back with the same feeling of renewal, genuine care, and a personalized experience they will take with them forever. It is not hard to see why Andaz Maui Awili Spa and Salon has earned this year’s #1 spot in the US Best Spas of 2018. We look forward to visiting and enjoying another personalized, bespoke experience again soon!
